Summary: Correspondence, legal documents, annual financial reports, payroll and valuation records documenting the operations of the Arizona Southern Railroad between 1904 and 1933. Includes legal agreements between Imperial Copper Company and the Arizona Southern Railroad, and between the Arizona Southern Railroad and the Southern Pacific Railroad (1904). Correspondence is primarily between Julius Kruttschnitt, F.W. Hills, and L.A. Chapin concerning the operation of the railroad and papers filed with the Arizona Corporation Commission. Includes some payroll records and the valuation reports filed with the Interstate Commerce Commission, Bureau of Valuation. The bulk of the collection are copies of the annual reports filed with the Arizona Corporation Commission.

The Southern Pacific Railroad was founded in 1865 and was purchased in 1869 by Collis Huntington, Leland Stanford, Charles Crocker and Mark Hopkins, better known as the Big Four. It was the first railroad to connect Los Angeles to the rest of California and its lines extended as far as New Orleans.
